It is amazing how much of the stuff that happened and was said at the AMC was stuff that I couldn’t have heard, even a few months ago.
This quote is on my mind today…
If we have an us and them revolution, we’ve organized them versus us – Adrea Smith, 2009 Allied Media Conference closing ceremony

woa. deep. not sure if i am getting this right, but i think it reminds me of the Paolo Freire idea that those who oppress also need to be liberated (in a very different way than oppressed folks tho, i think.) i really struggle to not see enemies in my analysis of the world and the work i do, which sometimes i think is okay and an act of survival. but i also wonder how it can be possible to organize a revolution that is not “us” vs. “them” — what would that look like?

I don’t quite understand why you wouldn’t have heard it, but I love reading what you write anyway. And that’s a neat quote, whatever exactly the larger context is. And timely, too, because, well, my partner was just talking to me last night about things I do that make me think of myself in a category that people I’m interacting with aren’t in. (Ironically, in comparison to your quote–he mentioned me interjecting a lot of my reading-about-people-doing-revolutionary-things life into my interactions with actual people.)
