been seeing a lot of talk about “calling out” people. and “holding people accountable.”
and after having spent the whole week with some radical amazing organizers doing some of the most sophisticated, intelligent, in depth, human centered, radicalized loving work….AND getting a few hours of sleep finally….I have to ask:
What is this “calling out” thing? It seems to be flying around a lot–everybody and their grandmother seems to be participating in it…but does anybody really have a set definition for it?
and,
What is this “holding people accountable” thing? Again…it seems to be flying around a lot–everybody and their grandmother seems to be participating in it…but does anybody really have a set definition for it?
It seems weird to me that over and over and over again the internet keeps engaging in “calling out”–to the point that people are eager and willing to be “called out” when they need it…and yet, I’ve never seen one set, stable discussion anywhere on what “calling out” means, what the process hopes to accomplish, or what the steps of the process actually are on any major or medium sized feminist blog (seems to me, this is where LJ and other closed blogging communities rawk hard, as they HAVE covered some of this shit).
This blog will not be hosting a “lets define” conversation. I just noticed something and felt like saying that I noticed it.

In the old time days one would call someone out to hold them accountable by beating them into submission.
I have a suspicion that things haven’t changed as much as we would like to think.
