(Half blood prince trailer)
I will be going to see this soon. Have you see it yet? Going to see it? Thoughts, thoughts, anybody thoughts?
ETA: just got home from watching it. verdict? worst of all of the movies.
*GINNY*
yes, GINNY
ties harry’s shoe as a type of *flirting*.
I don’t know if the series ever will redeem itself in my eyes again.

I forgot to buy tickets before they sold out for the midnight show! I literally teared up a bit and am still toying with the idea of just sneaking into the theater….
I guess I could wait to see it tomorrow although it’s never quite the same as getting to experience it with the other die-hards

Really hoping to go see it tomorrow night with my brother! Will tell you what I think if I do. Since we last talked Potter I have actually read all the books!

seeing it in about two hours! weirdly excited even though you said it sucked! possibly because i have no standards for these movies so as long as there are pretty special effects and charming british accents and a couple lines that are funny on purpose i’ll walk away satisfied! seriously i even liked the GoF movie because hey, I was always entertained! sometimes it was in the way the movie wanted me to be, sometimes it was doubling over laughing at emma watson’s eyebrows (“everything’s [wiggle] going to CHANGE now [waggle], isn’t it [twitchy], Harry?” I lol’d).
but the ginny thing does kind of gross me out. OH WELL.

I saw it! Finally. Yesterday.
(disclaimer: I have not read the books and won’t anytime soon but I’ve enjoyed the movies and the fandom)
The scenes were more disjointed than usual which made it hard to get into the flow of the action much less the emotion. It WAS funnier than the last ones and it was nice to see them acting a little more young adult. Ending was kinda jarring.
Visually it was spectacular though. I just wish the screenplay (and the acting) could catch up to the imagery. There really is no chemistry between Hermione and Ron or Jenny and Harry so this love thing was pretty abrupt for me. Maybe if Ron stopped acting like such a cad….
I hope the next two finish up hard. I feel like I’ve been left in the middle of the bed post-foreplay, sitting up and holding up my hands like, “where’s my climax?”
July 16th, 2009 at 3:39 pm #
Was the shoelace-tying as flirting bad because it was very passive?
July 16th, 2009 at 9:41 pm #
It felt rushed but then that’s inevitable.
I’m quite with Kismet as to how it all left me feeling: “I hope the next two finish up hard. I feel like I’ve been left in the middle of the bed post-foreplay, sitting up and holding up my hands like, “where’s my climax?””
Thing is, I can’t remember if I felt the same way at the end of the book too, or not. I had the 7th book right there to dive into, and I remember I read those two in a matter of three days.
One thing I didn’t think it did very well was show how attached Harry got to the “Half Blood Prince”. Though I found that rather odd in the book myself, it was a pretty important piece. Snape’s revelation at the end wasn’t nearly so jarring as it should have been because of the lack of that, I thought.

Oops didn’t see your edit. Yah the shoe tying thing was just…off. It seemed completely out of left field and felt all wrong. Harry was always attracted to her presence as powerful, and that was like the exact opposite of that, yet it was the most sexually charged scene as far as the filming went. Very awkward.
She and he holding out against the Death Eaters at the beginning was far more appropo.

I completely pushes the shoelace thing out of my head. The whole audience groaned when that happened. Will have to up date my review.
(Did you notice the black girl whose hair got blown into a natural in the joke shop?)
So many “little things” in this one. While it gets a total fail on the handling of all of the strong women in the last two films, I still credit the franchise for refusing to depict the pro-slavery storyline from the books.

I, too, thought the shoe lace thing was a little weird. I was more bothered by how covertly sexual it was. I did not read it as submissive or subservient because of that. But then again, that may have been because I saw the movie with 4 9-10 year olds and had to endure their constant giggles throughout all the “snogging” parts.
I enjoyed it, but felt that so much of the mood of the book was lost. For example, unless they are going to pick up more of the flashbacks in the next movie, much of Voldemort’s history was missing.
And small quibble: I was SO disappointed that Harry never got the chance to hook up with the cute Muggle-of-color from the beginning of the film! LOL

I can remember tying someone’s shoelaces (together) a very long time ago, but I can’t remember why (it was not flirtation–more like not-quite-malevolent mischief).
Not impressed with this movie, and noticing that the villains are developing a rather cardboardy texture.

soooooooo tired, going to bed soon, but wanted to pop in to say that I didn’t like the “tie shoe” thing–because holy goddamn SHIT–this is ginny fucking weasly, SISTER TO 6 OLDER BROTHERS. Any woman who is a sister to brothers KNOWS–hell NO, you tie your own fucking shoes, and here’s a punch in the guts just to reaffirm the point. Tie. Your. Own. Fucking. Shoes.
And the feeding harry the cake thing, and the crying because she’s fighting with dean…..I mean–I was OUTRAGED about the crying over dean–because JKR said over and over in the books–GINNY DOESN’T CRY. that’s one of the things that “harry always loved” about Ginny–and he speculates that “having six brothers must’ve toughened her up.” —so if she has six brothers that have toughened her up and a mother who has taught her not to put up with shit, why is she crying? why is she flirting by tying a dude’s shoes for him? I think that the book harry would’ve totally thrown a bat boogey hex at the movie ginny.
but I have to wonder too–I don’t think that the acting was the greatest in this film. SO fucking wooden and stale. And ginny–if she is anything, she is full of life and energy. she respects fred and george. she steals brooms at the age of six and practices flying on her own. and this actress was Sooooooooooooooooooooooo flat. I mean, I kept wondering if she was shy in real life and didn’t have enough experience as an actress to be more outgoing for the role. I mean…to me…Ginny SHOULD’ve been more like the woman of color in the coffee shop. forward, flirty, assertive with what she wanted, a jiggle in her step, and ALIVE.
And susurro–NO, i didn’t notice that thing with the girl’s hair!!!!!!!!!! JESUS.
oh, and the ending????? WTF? where was the extended battle scene? we get this weird, dumbledore killed, harry runs, snape snarls, and the death eaters walk around looking for hagrid’s hut to set on fire.
really?
WHy did draco need to get all the death eaters into hogwarts if their only job once they got in there was to watch draco kill dumbledore? WTF?
It was a messy movie, as usual, trying to cram so much plot in that the movie completely disassociated itself from major character traits and story lines.

“WHy did draco need to get all the death eaters into hogwarts if their only job once they got in there was to watch draco kill dumbledore? WTF? ”
I thought that was a fail too. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for a showdown in the cafeteria or something and then….wands went into the sky and that was that?
huh?
YES!!! to PPR_Scribe: She was so adorable! Go Harry…except then he disappeared.
And to her I will add the swexy Slitherin o’ color who popped throughout the film (starting with Malfoy in the train car). I was like…hmm. I’m wearing my Griffindor shirt but maybe I need to speak the snake speak after all.
(hmm. that wasn’t supposed to sound so erotic but ok.)

Anyone know a good poc and HPotter critique/analysis? I had a fight with K. Iris on Rowlings’ uninclusivity but I don’t read the books so I was battling with, er, no wand on that one….
July 18th, 2009 at 11:40 am #
Ok thank you! I was so wondering about the battle scene and thought I was just confused! So there WAS one?? I could have sworn I remembered there being one in the books and I was like “but why would they leave that out of the movie…that’s what movies are for, big battle scenes…”
July 21st, 2009 at 9:54 am #
@ whatsername: Yep, the battle scene was key. That is where Bill gets turned into a half werewolf or whatever. It seemed so much was left out of this one that it will be hard to catch up, even assuming there will be two more movies instead of just one.
