funny that you mention food stamps. ive been having half-thoughts on food stamps. well, really (and i know this is a bit off topic) but how i sometimes feel resentful when college students can qualify for food stamps but i cant. and ok, im married. but why cant a new mommy and baby and papa who is working a basic job (day care) and we cant get food stamps or health insurance or a bunch of shit…but my friend who is a grad student can? or this other friend of mine who gets food stamps even though her family RICH. she is a trust fund kid. she is single, has no kids, no debt, barely any bills, lives off her trust fund and govt assistance…
i mean maybe if i could have gotten food stamps i could have had much more what i wanted to eat…
like when did food stamps start to feel like a privilege to me?
i know that they are not a privilege on most levels. and yet. i (the black girl) gets treated like she is some welfare queen/stealing money from hard working tax payers…but i never hear anyone talking about college kids on food stamps…and what that means…in terms of who gets supported in this society by this govt and who is expected to just fend on their own…i dont know…

noemi, i dunno… because in both the north and the south, i’ve never ever heard of a warm slaw. do they make it warm in tx? but like i said, i guess it could be a regional difference.

and yeah, thank you for that other response. the “we” i know, sometimes it seems like that’s an awful lot of what “we” talk about, out of pure necessity…

Renee, I don’t know who the “we” is that is not discussing food and class and poverty and money, but the “we” I know, does, every day, as women of color, mamis of color, as vegans, as community members, as chicana/os, as working class barely making it, as I wish I still was able to get food stamps kinda way.

Aaminah-maybe it’s something else, some sort of slaw thats cold instead of warm?? and is the bbq sauce $8 a quart? must be some special sauce.

you know, i did find it vastly amusing that not only are they charging this insane price but they only accept cash, LOL. i mean, bring your fam in, right? it’s a minimum $50 bill, but you have to pay in cash? plus, i think it’s really funny that at those prices they have horrible grammar (see “sandwicheS comeS with one side of beans”) AND don’t know that it’s “coleslaw”, NOT “COLD slaw” though i suppose that could be a regional difference, LOL.

I think I’m more offended by $10 for a quart of beans/coleslaw. What the fuck goes in coleslaw (or beans for that matter) to make it worth $10?
