I had the honor of joining radical women of color (many of who are your favorite bloggers, BrownFemiPower, Black Amazon, Little Light, Mamita Mala, Sudy, Nadia, and sooo many more) in putting together an amazing album that chronicles experiences around struggle, love, motherhood, redemption, healing and community. You can cop the CD in January, along with a zine and listening party curriculum, so be prepared! More details to come soon but stay on this— there are only 200 copies currently available. This is an effort towards sustainability and self-funding and all proceeds from this album will go to supported mamis wanting to attend the Allied Media Conference next summer. Album will be offered on a sliding scale.

    Is there a transcript?

  2. bfp

gosh, i wouldn’t even know how to put this vid into a transcript…let me see if I can hook you up with something….

I’m emailing the people who are working on this project–but until I hear back from them–the reason it’s hard for me to transcribe this myself is because it’s kinda a musical-ly montage sorta thing. It’s got the women’s voices who participated in creating the CD speaking bits and pieces of their tracks fading in and out and looping over top of each other with music kinda swapping in and out over top of that…

here’s an explanation of the video from ms. crip chick that kinda helps to explain it better than i did:

I just came from an academic blog that was intentionally demeaning the kind of work woc/radical feminists do with their blogging b/c of . . . stupid stuff . . . & what I, as a disabled blogger, must contend with some times when I leave comments (calling my dis/ability stupid without acknowledging it as an ability issue). . .

and then I cam here and saw this video! :D

Between this amazing project and the interview Kortney has coming up, I find myself beaming at the computer screen with joy about how brilliant, varied, creative, and powerful you all are! And yes, how nice it is to have a counterpoint to the other voices in the blogosphere.

I will definitely be ordering a copy and if all goes well, I may order a few to use in class next fall (depends on what I am teaching).

I know you’ve ejected the feminism label, but you all make me proud to be a feminist every day! :D

thanks for the pick me up and the creative juices. (And also showing how creativity can come out of the “dust ups” with people who do not care for nor believe our voices should be published or heard.)

    Ok, anon, two things.
first, one of the organizers said that she will try to do some transcribing later tonight and get it posted as soon as she can.

second, she also asked me to let you know that there is a zine that is included with the CD, so even if this video isn’t immediately accessible to you, the CD is/will be.

I will post her transcriptions as soon as I get it!!!!

This touches my heart in all the soft gooey parts. thank you SO much, and thank YOU for reminding me through your words how what we just did (with the Speak! CD) is connected to what other radical women of color have historically done–somehow you/I connected myself/ourselves to gloria in a way that is so intimate and important to me–thank you so much for connecting the dots (through the academic negativity, gathering our own resources and doing it ourselves, etc)….
