From Women’s Health News comes this link to a website where a young woman took pictures of her cervix every single day from the day menstruation starts all the way through the day before her next menstrual cycle starts. It’s pretty fascinating, and I think continues our conversation about urine/menstrual blood. For those people who found that conversation gross/disturbing, please be forewarned, the pictures are very graphic. Click here if you’re interested.

Ay NiƱa is what my mom told me when I showed her this. It’s pretty fascinating. I couldn’t stop looking at it and then complaining and the looking at them again.

ai, girl, you showed your mom this??? You are brave!!! :p
I was pretty grossed out, quite honestly, and I had to keep telling myself, embrace the gross, embrace the disgusting, what does it have to teach you???? hee hee.

Yup, that’s pretty gross, all right. Amazing and daring and very positive, but clearly I am not ready for the Advanced Fluids Loving course.
I did love that she mentioned the blood spot on day 10 was probably from “vigorous intercourse.”

I actually do find those photos beautiful – something about the slick, smooth pinkness, especially in the menstruation photos with the bright crimson splashes. The images don’t squick me; I don’t find them gross. Maybe I’m uncommon in that respect.

I wanted to look, but it really made me sick to my stomach, so i had to do like five at a time. It was the fluids more than anything, though, which makes me feel bad because I sell people dildos all day, so I probably shouldn’t have been so grossed out. Ah well.

This was incredible – thank you so much for this link! I was a little squicked too, but totally fascinated at the same time. Talk about body confidence…

The os does not open like a door so he should not be able to stick a finger in to it like sticking a finger in a tube. But if it has sunk slightly it probably does mean that it is open.
What does happen is that the uterine changes cause a softening of the uterus and cervix.
And what also happens is that the mucus plug in the os changes from a thick mucus to a thin and very slippery mucus.
This link might help with a description of what you are looking for:

Hope that helps.

just to say that if he could get his finger into your os it would probably mean that yr os is one cm to an inch open, aka dilated, aka not helpful and can cause an infection. so yay! yr cervix is closed but softened. that is what you want if you are looking for signs of fertility.
to be honest, fertility is a tricky thing. it requires a series of hormones to act in concert. and that series can be off rhythm caused by anything from stress to physical abnormalities to someone sticking their finger trying to poke into your uterus.
how many days are you fertile?
ok. about seven days. because the sperm can live about three days in a sperm-friendly uterus. and you are ‘fertile’ for about 3-4 days every month. (this all general info and not specific to yr particular body) so 3-4 days/month plus a couple of days before fertility where u are not ‘fertile’ but the sperm can survive until u r fertile…
my first suggestions is to: relax! relax!
like, most folks i know who got preggers b/c they were trying. tried really hard. and then gave up for a few months. and boom! they were preggers. those hormones, that i mentioned earlier, the series and concert of hormones…they work best under a low-stress environment.
yr best days for getting pregnant are the days when you feel sexy and warm and ready.
another key. orgasm. go for the orgasm. orgasm increases the chances of fertilization b/c the hormones of the -oh. my. god.- plus the push of the cervix and uterus during orgasm cause the sperm to get in the right position for fertilization.
and if after 18 months of trying (yes, 18 months…) then you may want to start looking at more physiological issues around conception.
its funny, i feel, that in our society, we are so warned against not getting preggers that we think that a couple of months of unprotected sex should lead to boom! a baby. well, it doesnt really happen that way usually.
my best friend told me once that if i wanted to get preggers i should stick a fertility goddess under the bed and have sex with my legs in the air.
it worked.
good luck.
